ao Tzu’s compilation of ancient Chinese wisdom never ceases to heat my soul up. When I read it for the first time, I was stunned at how succinctly he described my spiritual beliefs (hehe, in my case philosophy is often too far ahead of action) and verbalized what something deep within me has always wanted to say out loud.

[ancient Masters] were careful
as someone crossing an iced-over stream.
Alert as a warrior in enemy territory.
Courteous as a guest.
Fluid as melting ice.
Shapable as a block of wood.
Receptive as a valley.
Clear as a glass of water.Do you have the patience to wait
till your mud settles and the water is clear?
Can you remain unmoving
till the right action arises by itself? The Master doesn’t seek fulfillment.
Not seeking, not expecting,
she is present, and can welcome all things.~ Tao Te Ching, Book 15, Translation by Stephen Mitchell

A good traveler has no fixed plans
and is not intent upon arriving.
A good artist lets his intuition
lead him wherever it wants.
A good scientist has freed herself of concepts
and keeps her mind open to what is.Thus the Master is available to all people
and doesn’t reject anyone.
He is ready to use all situations
and doesn’t waste anything.
This is called embodying the light. What is a good man but a bad man’s teacher?
What is a bad man but a good man’s job?
If you don’t understand this, you will get lost,
however intelligent you are.
It is the great secret.~ Tao Te Ching, Book 27, Translation by Stephen Mitchell
If you don’t have a copy on your bedside table, or if you haven’t made the time to read it quite yet, I highly recommend getting into this book (I like the Mitchell translation):

...boy falling on cedars...
Read MoreI’m looking up your skirt
Tracing your thick, pulpy legs,
Watching your body gyrate, your arms
Swaying to a beat that I sense
Only because you translate. To your roots my organs
Cling. To your skin I touch
My tongue. It’s been too long since I’ve paid you visit
and I know that I’m a terrible lover.
But still you embrace me, coax me
To be with you now…now…now.Seems that’s all you ever care about anyway –
How I love you now.And now the sun is near the ridge,
Guiding clever light to find your vulnerabilities
and peek through your mossy drapes to your heart.
So close to you, I cup my ear to your belly
and I listen in to the secrets
Unraveling. The way you translate the language
of Love, of Soul, of Divine Beauty –
So tantalizing, Sweet Seducer. I weep
and begin to sway with your shadow,
giving you full permission
To make love to me forever.~ Jason Alan Miller, April 2010
